Biography

Stephen Hsu is a Harvard-trained, internationally acclaimed physician-scientist with a passion for patient engagement and global health solutions through the application of clinical translational research. Steve has several patents to his name with previous products commercialized from nearly two decades of characterizing the TRIP-Br family of proteins he discovered during his clinical fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. They function as regulators of the cell cycle, turning genes on and off, as well as playing the role of a master regulator of the balance between fat utilization vs. storage. These master regulators of metabolism are now therapeutic targets for developing a novel class of anti-obesity drugs. Steve was recruited from the Brigham & Women's Hospital (Harvard Medical School) to be the first occupant of the R. Glenn Davis Endowed Chair in Clinical and Translational Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Director of the MD-PhD Training Program at the University of Florida in 2007.
