Professor Tang is a Paediatric immunologist allergist with the Department of Allergy and Immunology at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne and Group Leader of Allergy and Immune Disorders Research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She is a Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne, and a lecturer in the University Undergraduate Science and Biomedical Science degrees. She has an international reputation in research, clinical care and policy aspects of Allergy and Immunology. Prof Tang has received >$27M in peer reviewed grant funding including $4.8M from prestigious international (NIH, Gates Foundation) and >$19M from national funding agencies (NHMRC, ARC). Professor Tang has authored more than 250 peer reviewed publications and book chapters, as well as a book on childhood food allergies; 135 of these were published in the last 5 years. Professor Tang is an inventor on 2 patents. The most recent describes a novel approach to treatment of food allergy - A method of inducing tolerance to an allergen (ID 2008900463; Filed MCRI #22 priority 1st Feb 2008), which has attracted $15M investment for commercialisation. Professor Tang has contributed to development of national and international guidelines. Key achievements include: development of national ASCIA guidelines on ‘Prevention of Allergic Disease’ and ‘Infant Feeding Advice’ which were widely adopted; development of Anaphylaxis Guidelines and Policy for Schools which are now legislated in Victoria.
