Polyxeni Karakosta is MD from the University of Athens, specialized in Medical Microbiology, and has completed her PhD in Public Health (Epidemiology) in the University of Crete. She has working experience both as a Consultant Microbiologist in a tertiary care hospital and as a Research Associate in epidemiological studies (University and TEI of Crete). During her clinical service as a consultant, she developed a special interest in bacteriology and patterns of antibiotics resistance. Polyxeni’s research interests focus on design of epidemiological studies and surveillance of nosocomial infections and antimicrobial resistance
