He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos de Lima-Peru (1967), a master's degree (1972) and a PhD (1977) in Biological Sciences (Genetics) from the University of São Paulo. He is currently a researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation - head of the Human Genetics Laboratory at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC / Fiocruz) and an associate professor at the University of Grande Rio (Unigranrio). He has extensive experience in Statistics Applied to Biomedical Sciences, working mainly in the following subjects: Genetics of human populations, Genetic Epidemiology of cystic fibrosis, Genetics of chronic multifactorial diseases (hypertension, obesity, Metabolic Syndrome, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Diabetes) and Genetics of degenerative neuromuscular diseases (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy
