He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1982), a Master's degree in Biology (Nuclear Biosciences) from Rio de Janeiro State University (1987) and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (1991). He completed his postdoctoral studies at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College (London) (1996-1998). He is currently Researcher III of the Laboratory of Inflammation of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and researcher 1B of the CNPq. He is an ad-hoc consultant for funding agencies such as CNPq, FAPERJ, CAPES, FAPESP, among others, and is the Coordinator of the Technical Board of Education of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute. He is currently a member of the board of the Brazilian Society of Experimental Pharmacology and Therapeutics. It has about 148 articles published in indexed journals and 7 book chapters, having conducted 28th Masters and 16 Doctoral degrees, in addition to more than 50 students of scientific initiation. He has experience in the field of Pharmacology, with emphasis in Biochemical and Molecular Pharmacology, working mainly in the area that studies the inflammatory component involved in chronic pulmonary diseases, both immunological and non-immunological, with a view to the identification of new therapeutical alternatives for control of these pathophysiologies.
