He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1992), a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1996) and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (2000) Pos doc (3 months in 2001) at the Leiden Medical Center in The Netherlands. He is currently a researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, an adjunct professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Still, he is a Scientist from Our State (CNE / FAPERJ), a productivity fellow at CNPq and the MALTALEP scientific committee. He is a research group leader in functional genomics and epidemiological genetics of infectious diseases and head of the leprosy laboratory of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute with experience in Genetics, Immunology and Molecular Biology, working mainly on the following topics: genetics and immunology of infectious diseases (leprosy, tuberculosis, dengue, leishmaniasis, Chagas disease and sepsis), molecular diagnosis of leprosy and tuberculosis, science education (immunology and molecular biology). It is a possible reviewer for state development agencies (FAPESP, FAPEMIG, FACEPE and FAPERJ) and federal (CNPq, CAPES, DECIT) and international agencies (Leloir / CONICET and MRC, for example) and a large number of journals. It is also of particular interest in the training of human resources with master's and doctoral degrees and in Brazilian scientific and technological development. In this context, he held the position of coordinator of the Stricto sensu Post-graduation Program of Cellular and Molecular Biology of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (2006-2010), and is active in FIOCRUZ's human resources training at postgraduate level abroad, especially in Mozambique (where it is also involved in research, teaching and development activities) but also in Argentina and Haiti. He currently holds the position of assistant general coordinator of postgraduate programs at FIOCRUZ and is the manager of the technological platforms for genotyping and gene expression of the technological development program for health inputs (PDTIS).
