Biography

My current role is Director of Scientific Engagement & Innovation in the NCE Molecular Discovery department in DDS/PTS. I am a GSK Senior Fellow and an Adjunct Professor at Imperial College chemistry department developing links of mutual benefit to GSK and IC. My role is to act an internal science consultant promoting and challenging ideas at the interface of chemistry and biology both within GSK and through our external engagement with academia. Recent activities include: o Leading our Cell Concentration project which delivers methodology for determining the total and free cellular concentration of discovery molecules.  o Active engagement in projects including gene editing, protein degradation, CETSA, single cell protein quantification, MS imaging, and medicinal chemistry o Leading GSK Stevenage Scientific Excellence initiative which works to coordinate and promote inter departmental connectivity and awareness of the excellence of science in GSK.  Previously I was a Director in Chemical Sciences at GSK in the UK responsible for leading departments involved in computational chemistry, protein crystallography, biophysics and protein MS.  o Since joining Glaxo in 1986, I have been involved in the introduction and development of many key concepts in drug discovery – including Computational Chemistry, Fragment Screening, Automation in Protein Crystallography, MALDI tissue imaging, Molecular Complexity, RECAP analysis, Cell concentration screening, and ligandability assessment.

Research Intrest

I have been at the forefront of our efforts to reduce attrition in drug discovery through focussing on physicochemical properties of compounds through data analysis.
