Michael Sakalian, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics. He manages research grants in the cell and structural biology of the viral life-cycle and in structure-based drug design related to AIDS. Prior to joining NIGMS, Sakalian served as associate director of molecular virology at Panacos Pharmaceuticals. He earned a B.S. in biochemistry from Virginia Tech and a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from Cornell University. Sakalian conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
