Biography

Dr. Hayden joined Teva as President of Global R&D and Chief Scientific Officer in 2012. He is also currently the Killam Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia and Canada Research Chair in Human Genetics and Molecular Medicine. He is also the founder and Senior Scientist of the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of British Columbia.

Research Intrest

Prior to joining Teva, he founded three biotechnology companies (NeuroVir, Aspreva Pharmaceuticals and Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc.) and served as Chief Scientific Officer of Xenon from 2000 to 2012. He also served as a director of Med Biogene Inc. from 2010 to 2011. He has received numerous awards, including the Canada Gairdner Wightman Award in 2011, the Order of Canada Award in 2010, the highest honor that Canada can give its citizens for exceptional achievement, and the Distinguished Scientist Award of the Canadian Society of Clinical Investigation in 1998 and in 2008 he was named Canada’s Health Researcher of the Year. Dr. Hayden received his MB ChB in Medicine, Ph.D. in Genetics and DCH Diploma in Child Health from the University of Cape Town. He received his American Board Certification in both internal medicine and clinical genetics from Harvard Medical School and an FRCPC in internal medicine from the University of British Columbia.
