Merab Kokaia, born 1956, is a professor of neurophysiology and leader of the Epilepsy Center at the Lund University Medical Faculty. In addition to his collaboration with David Woldbye on NPY and epilepsy, Merab Kokaia also has easy pioneering studies in optogenetics and neurotrophins in epileptic contexts. He also contributed to the scientific discoveries and patented inventions that gave rise to the companies NeuroVive Pharmaceutical AB (publ) and MaasBiolab in the United States.
