Highly experienced in the molecular and cell biology of Kinetoplastid parasites, particularly trypanosomes but also Leishmania donovani. Extensive knowledge and practical experience in genetic manipulation and tool development for Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma brucei. Development of inducible expression system for T. cruzi, and highly sensitive in vivo imaging models for both African and American trypanosomiasis with applications to enhanced drug discovery for difficult stages of the infection (CNS, heart etc). Specific interest in the role of iron and oxidative stress in the pathogenesis and immunology of trypanosomiases. Also involved in teaching biochemistry, molecular/cell biology and immunology of parasitic infection to postgraduate students.
