Biography

He holds a bachelor's degree in Genetics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1984), a master's degree (1991) and a doctorate (1997) in Parasitary Biology (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation - Fiocruz) and a postdoctoral degree from the University of Barcelona (2008). He is currently Head of the Laboratory of Comparative and Environmental Virology of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Fiocruz. Has experience in the area of ​​Medical Microbiology, with emphasis on Virology. It develops activities related to the main viruses responsible for acute viral gastroenteritis, with emphasis on the diagnosis and molecular epidemiology of norovirus. In 2004 he started the line of research in Environmental Virology, working on the development of molecular methodologies for the detection of these viruses in aquatic ecosystems. Coordinator of the Research Group on Environmental and Food Virology.
