Biography

Dr. Matthias is a health communication specialist and Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.  An appointed Regenstrief research scientist, she conducts research in the VA HSR&D Center for Health Information and Communication at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center and in the Indiana University Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research. 

Research Intrest

Dr. Matthias’ research interests include relationship-centered care and its effect on health care processes and outcomes, patient-provider communication, patient activation, and clinical decision making.She is particularly interested in communication in chronic pain care and severe mental illness.
