Graduate in Biological Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1979), Master in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1985) and PhD in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1990). She is currently a researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, head of the Laboratory of Cellular Microbiology at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute. He has experience in Microbiology, with emphasis in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, working mainly in the following topics: pathogenic mechanisms of Mycobacterium leprae, with emphasis on the interaction of the pathogen with the host cell; utilization of synthetic M. leprae synthetic peptides in the study of the immune response in M. leprae infected individuals and the development of a test for the early diagnosis of leprosy.
