Maier Lorizate earned her Bachelor of Science in 2001 and Master of Science in 2003 from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the PhD in 2006 from the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She did postdoctoral research at the University of Heidelberg (Germany) working on the dynamics of cellular membranes in the context of HIV pathogenesis, the study of novel therapies for HIV infection treatment, and the role of viral lipids in virus stability and infectivity. She got a full professor position in 2012.
Her research aims at investigating different aspects of HIV pathogenesis, especially in the role that lipids and lipid-protein interactions play in virus entry and morphogenesis. We also focus on the development of novel drug delivery systems and therapeutic strategies to fight or prevent HIV infection.
