Research Fields: Our research interest is two-fold. First, we investigate the synaptic mechanisms, structure and plasticity of the neural circuits linking reciprocally the thalamus with the different cortical areas, using the visual system as a model. Second, we want to understand the basic mechanisms of visual perception at its earliest stages. Our ultimate goal is to gain a better understanding of the structure and function of the visual cortical microcircuit that will, ultimately, reveal fundamental principles of neocortical function as a whole, and help bridge the gulf between cellular physiology and cognition.
