Biography

Dr. Joseph Dodds is a psychoanalyst in a private clinical practice (Czech Psychoanalytical Society, International Psychoanalytical Association), a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) of the British Psychological Society, a Chartered Scientist (CSci) with the Science Council UK, and on the Management Committee of the Climate Psychology Alliance. He is also an active member of several other professional societies such as the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society, the International Society for Psychology and the Arts, and the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. After completing his BSc in Psychology and Neuroscience in 1999 from Manchester University, in 2002 he earned a distinction in his MA in Psychoanalytic Studies at Sheffield University's School of Health and Related Research, where he subsequently completed an MPhil in Psychoanalysis in 2010. He graduated with a PhD from the University of Bolton in 2013 and qualified as a psychoanalyst with the Czech Psychoanalytical Society (IPA) in 2016. He has also completed numerous postgraduate psychotherapy and counseling trainings and diplomas. Dr Dodds previously worked at the Ellern Mede Centre for Young People with Eating Disorders in North London, as a psychotherapist at Terapie. Info in Prague, and as a psychology lecturer at Charles University. As well as his position as a senior lecturer at AAU, he also teaches at the University of New York in Prague and the ARCHIP Architectural Institute. Joseph Dodds is the author of the groundbreaking book Psychoanalysis and Ecology at the Edge of Chaos: Complexity theory, Deleuze|Guattari and psychoanalysis for a climate in crisis (Dodds 2011, Routledge), and several other articles and book chapters. His research interests include the dialogue between psychoanalysis and neuroscience, and the application of psychological and psychoanalytic insight into society, art, film, and ecology. Currently, the focus of his research is on the affective, unconscious, aesthetic, and psycho-social dynamics of climate change.
