Growing up in Poland, Jerzy was introduced to the sciences at a very early age. By the time he reached middle school, he was hooked. “In Poland we started studying the sciences very early,” he said. “I was fascinated by experiments, and that just solidified the idea in my mind that I wanted to be a scientist and go into chemistry.” Jerzy never lost his fascination with experimental science. In fact, it became his passion. “Chemistry is one of the branches of science where you do experiments and measure things to reach a conclusion. Those of us who enjoy the process are fortunate,” Jerzy said. “Experimental science isn’t easy. It’s hard to get secrets out of nature. Achieving something significant in science requires dedication and a lot of quality time in the lab. You need patience and perseverance, but if you’re fascinated by the process, you can sustain yourself and be successful.”
