Grant completed his PhD at Rhodes University in 2013. He is the lead researcher on the biological control programme against the invasive aquatic weed Sagittaria platyphylla (Delta Arrow head) and is currently investigating the life histories and host ranges of four associated weevil species. Grant has also managed the Rhodes University mass rearing facility and the persons with disabilities programme. The success of these programmes has allowed for mass rearing facilities suitable for employing persons with disabilities to be established in other areas of the country. His other research interests include developing artificial diet for biological control agents and invasive species associated with the mountain grasslands of South Africa.
