His research at UNU-FLORES focuses on statistical downscaling of climate data from GCMs and the application of remote sensing data for managing environmental resources and regional climate projections and impact assessment on the soil water budget. He currently works on assessing and synthesising of climate data related to the integrated management of water and soil in East Africa. Before joining UNU-FLORES, Solomon worked for the Ethiopian Water, Mines and Energy office and Catholic Relief Society (CRS) as a water and irrigation engineer and was the vice head officer of a sub-regional office for about five years in the areas of Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), water resource and environmental management, and water and irrigation engineering.
