Doctor of Science (Microbiology and Immunology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Fiocruz (1991). He has also completed an internship PhD at the Center for Biological Evaluation and Research, USFDA, Bethesda, MD, USA (1992-1995). He was a researcher at the Gonçalo Moniz / Fiocruz Research Center, Salvador, BA (1996-2000), and is currently a Research Fellow at the Osimo Cruz / Fiocruz Institute Research Laboratory on Timo. His major studies address Immunopathogenesis of HIV-1 / AIDS Infection, with emphasis on the effects of mediators of innate immunity on viral replication in immune cells
