Biography

Dr. José S. Calderón Pardo has completed his B.Sc in Chemistry (1962-1966) at the School of Chemistry, National Autonomous University of Mexico. Defense of thesis entitled “Synthesis of some substituted ciclopentanes” on November 9, 1967. Published in: Rev. Latinoamer. Quím., 5, 196 (1974). PhD. from Graduate Studies Division, School of Chemistry, UNAM. Defense of thesis entitled “Isolation and structural determination of two new sesterterpenes alboceric-I and albocerl acids”Published in: Experientia, 34, 421 (1978) y Chem. and Ind., 548 (1978).Dr. Calderón is Full Researcher at the Institute of Chemistry, UNAM. He has been awarded level C at the UNAM’s academic performance program and the highest level at the National Research System. He is also lecturer at the School of Chemistry since 1973. He was Secretary of Academic Affairs at the Institute of Chemistry, from April 19th, 1991 to August 10th, 1995 and Head of Medicinal Plants Research Unit from March 1st, 1996 to June 30th, 1998.He is qualified supervisor of the graduate program in Chemical Sciences and has supervised 61 theses and published 104 scientific articles. His articles have been cited 700 times.

Research Intrest

Dr. José S. Calderón Pardo focused on Natural products from plants (Phytochemistry): Identification and structural determination of secondary metabolites from plants of the genera Stevia, Brickellia, Ageratum and Ageratine, employing IR, UV, NMR, EM, and chemical reactions, Research on compounds with anti-inflammatory activity from plants belonging to the Asteraceae family, Isolation of compounds with insecticidal activity from the Asteraceae family (botanical pesticides), Compounds with inhibitory activity of tyrosinase with application in the food industry.
