Biography

Jie (Jessie) Yin is a senior research scientist at CSIRO, Australia. Her main research interests include data mining, machine learning, and their applications to text mining, social media/network mining and sensor data mining. She received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Her research experience includes activity recognition from sensor data, text mining from social media and Web forums, active learning and transfer learning in social networks.Jessie is an active researcher in data mining field with more than 40 research papers published in top-tier international conferences (AAAI, IJCAI, CIKM, ICDM, PKDD/ECML, etc.) and journals (TKDE, DMKD, TPAMI, TOIS, TOSN, etc.). She has served as the PC of all major conferences in her area including KDD, ICDM, KDD, AAAI, CIKM, etc. She was co-organizer of the 3rd International Workshop on Social Web for Disaster Management (SWDM 2015).Jessie is currently working on sensor data mining, with a focus on tracking residents' locations and recognizing their activities in smart homes. Particularly, she has been developing weakly supervised machine learning approaches to activity recognition in smart homes with multiple residents.
