Biography

Dr. Dibyendu Banerjee, is currently working as Scientist C, Molecular and Structural Biology Division, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, UP, India. He has done his PhD from School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is post-graduated in Human Genetics, Dept. of Zoology, Banaras Hindu, University, Varanasi, India. He is a life member of the Society for Biological Chemists (SBC), India and annaual member of AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science). His honors and awards won are; 1. Graduate Aptitude Test for Science (GATE) conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, India, 2000; 2. Recipient of Centre for Advanced Studies Fellowship, Department of Zoology, BHU, Varanasi, India, Sept 2000 to Dec 2001; 3. Recipient of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Fellowship for research anywhere in India, conducted by CSIR, 2002-2007; 4. Recipient of the RGYI- DBT young investigator grant 2012; and Recipient of the DST-Fastrack young investigator grant 2012. To sum up; 1. Recently discovered and published novel anticancer molecules with activity against colon cancer using pharmacophore based drug screening. 2. I have been granted an Indian patent for a series of anticancer compounds from CSIR-CDRI with activity against pancreatic cancer. 3. I have recently discovered a NCE with broad spectrum activity against both fungi and bacteria, including against MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). 4. I work with a team of Medicinal chemists, Bioinformaticians, Cell biologists, Biochemists, and Veterinarians (for animal models) to discover new anticancer and antibiotic molecules.

Research Intrest

Deciphering molecular mechanisms using biochemical, molecular and cell biology approaches, Characterization of DNA replication proteins involved in lagging strand synthesis and maturation.
