Biography

Anthony Nguyen is a Research Team Leader and Senior Research Scientist from the e-Health Program in CSIRO’s Health and Biosecurity Flagship and a Research Project Leader from the CSIRO Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) in Brisbane. Anthony leads the Health Data Semantics team, which aims to improve the quality and realise the value of electronic heath records, and projects relating to the medical text analysis of pathology, radiology, discharge, and other clinical reports to support clinical decision-making. He works closely with health-care practitioners from Cancer Registries, and hospital Pathology and Emergency Medicine Departments in Queensland and New South Wales.Anthony joined the AEHRC in 2006 as a Post Doctoral Fellow and later as a Research Scientist in 2008. He works with a team of researchers and engineers with expertise in the natural language processing of medical records and clinical terminology (ontology) engineering.Anthony received the B.Eng. (Aerospace Avionics) degree with first class honours in 1999 and a Ph.D. degree in the area of satellite and aerial image processing in 2005 at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). As part of his Ph.D., he was involved in various applied research contracts for clients such as DSTO, U.S. Office of Naval Research, and Boeing Australia.
