Material Science
University of Chemical technology and metallurgy
Bulgaria
The Department of Physical Metallurgy and Thermal Equipment (PMTE) is one of the oldest Departments at the University. It consists of three sections: “Metal Deformation, Fatigue and Fracture and Metal Forming”, “Metals Science and Heat Treatment of Metals” and “Energy and Ecological Efficiency in Metallurgy”. The Department of Physical Metallurgy and Thermal Equipment is the only Department at all Bulgarian technical universities which trains engineers at BSc. and MSc. level for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgies. The students at BSc. level have majors in Metallurgy, Materials Science (Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Science), Inorganic Chemical Technologies (Faculty of Chemical Technologies). The students at MSc. level have majors in Metal Forming, Physical Metallurgy, Energy and Ecological Efficiency in Metallurgy, Systems and Equipment for Environmental Protection in Metallurgy, Metallic Materials, Metallurgy of Non-Ferrous Metals and Alloys, Materials Science and Engineering (the teaching in the latter is in English). All these majors refer to the Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Science. The PhD. students at the Department work in areas corresponding to the scientific disciplines “Materials Science and Technology of Engineering Materials” (02.01.02), “Technologies, Machines and Systems for Metal Forming” (02.01.17), “Physical Metallurgy” (02.09.01), “Metallurgical Heat Engineering” (02.09.03) and “Powder Metallurgy” (02.09.10).
