Biography

Deniz Kirik is the leader of Brain Repair and Imaging in the Neural Systems unit (BRAIN) at Lund University. He is internationally recognized in experimental and translational neuro research with a particular focus on gene therapy for basal ganglia diseases, and is at the forefront of developing new and clinically relevant animal models for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. Deniz Kirik has published over 140 scientific articles which have been cited over 8900 times. He has been awarded prestigious awards from the European Research Council 2009 and 2012, and is deputy editor in the European Journal of Neuroscience and is in the editorial committee for the new Nature magazine Parkinson's disease. In 2012, with the support of the European Research Council, Dr Kirik founded the spinoff company Braingene AB, and in 2014 he founded GeneTunes AB. He recently founded, together with Region Skåne, the new company Genovation Care AB, aiming to create a hospital infrastructure for clinical Trials in gene therapy.
