Biography

David recently joined the IBM Research Lab in Nairobi, Kenya as a Research Scientist. His work focuses on the design and deployment of healthcare technologies in Africa.  He completed his Ph.D. in early 2016 at the MIT Media Lab, where his research in the Biomechatronics Group focused on the design of comfortable prosthetic sockets and wearable interfaces. This work was at the intersection of medical imaging (MRI); material science, and human anatomy (soft tissue modelling); and, computer-aided design and manufacturing (3D printing), leading to multiple academic publications and patents. David is on Forbes 30 Under 30 in Technology for 2013, a 2014 TED Fellow, on the Wired Smart List 2013, winner of the Lemelson-MIT National Collegiate Student Prize (2014), a National Geographic Emerging Explorer (2015) among other awards and recognition.
