From 1961-69: Research assistant at Laboratorium für Festkörperphysik, ETHZ; 1969-71: Research assistant at PMOD; 1971 Head of World Radiation Center, 1975-1999 Director of PMOD/WRC, 1999- Senior Scientist PMOD/WRC part time; 1988-92: President of Swiss National Climate Programme, ProClim of the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences; 1990- : Member of Academia Europaea; 1994- : Member of the International Academy of Astronautics; Member of the International Astronomical Union, European Astronomical Society (founding member), European Geophysical Society, American Geophysical Union, European and Swiss Physical Society.

Solar variabiliy with special emphasis on solar irradiance, and its relation to helioseismic results
