Elke Boers holds a Master’s degree in East European Studies and Slavic Languages from the University of Leuven. During her studies, she participated in an exchange programme with the Russian Federation and studied for one semester at the Kuban State University in Krasnodar. The next semester she was an Erasmus exchange student in Wroclaw, Poland. Ms. Boers also received scholarships to take part in two summer courses in Poland, where most topics were dedicated to communications and international cooperation. After this, she obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Antwerp. During these studies, she completed an internship at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris at the Science Policy and Partnership Building Sector. She worked in the context of the Science Diplomacy Programme, after which she decided to dedicate her thesis subject to national and international approaches to Science Diplomacy. At UNU-CRIS she works on the EU-funded H2020 project ‘European Leadership in Cultural, Science and Innovation Diplomacy’ (EL-CSID).
