Biography

Anthony Carter, Ph.D., is a program director in the NIGMS Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology with specialization in the areas of chromosome organization, nuclear structures, and epigenetics. Before joining NIGMS in 1999, Carter was a scientific review administrator at the NIH Center for Scientific Review. There, he supervised the evaluation of research grant and postdoctoral fellowship applications dealing with topics in genetics, cell biology and molecular biology. From 1989-1995, Carter held a joint faculty appointment in the department of genetics and the department of biochemistry and molecular biophysics at the Medical College of Virginia. Prior to that, he was a senior staff fellow at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases, where he developed a molecular biology program for cloning and characterizing genes for signal transduction proteins. He was an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow and staff fellow at the National Cancer Institute from 1980-1984.
