Biography

Amir H. Hoveyda is professor of chemistry at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, and currently holds the position of department chair. He studies asymmetric catalysis, and is particularly noted for his work on developing catalysts for asymmetric olefin metathesis. In recent years he has worked extensively with N-heterocyclic carbenes as ligands. His research also focuses on copper-catalyzed allylic alkylations and conjugate additions using these ligands.Prof. Hoveyda received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1986, and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. He received the Cope Scholar award from the American Chemical Society in 1998.
