Biography

Alena Foustková graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czech Republic, with a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in 1982, majoring in printmaking. In 1984 she and her husband left then Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Canada. Through studies at the George Brown College in Toronto Foustková gained further background in advertising. She spent over 10 years in various Canadian ad agencies. Her knowledge became valuable after 1989 in the Czech Republic. Foustková was hired by a multinational advertising agency Satchi&Saatchi in Prague. She and her family moved back to the Czech Republic in 1995. Until 2009 Foustková worked in multinational advertising agencies as an Art Director and Creative Director (HAVAS, JWT) and gained numerous awards for excellence in advertising. Her creative work was collected by the Neue Sammlung in Munich, Germany, for their permanent collection. Since 2009, Foustková has devoted her time again to the fine arts and newly to teaching in the areas of media, advertising and the arts. In her artwork, Foustková focuses on social issues and the effects of mass media.
