Hsiu-Min Yu received her M.A. in Linguistics from the Institute of Linguistics, Fu-Jen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 1984. In 1984 she worked as an English lecturer, teaching Freshman English for non-English majors at Tatung Institute of Technology. From 1985 to 1990, she was a full-time assistant researcher at Telecommunication Laboratories, Ministry of Transportation and Communication, doing researches on Mandarin text-to-speech and speech-recognition technology. Since 1990, she has been teaching English courses in Chung Hua University as a full-time lecturer, and is now also pursuing the Ph.D. program offered by the Graduate Institute of Taiwan Languages and Language Education, National Hsinchu University of Education.
