Professor Chen received his M.D. from National Yang-Ming University (NYMU) in 1982, M.S. from Graduate Institute of Microbiology and Immunology of NYMU in 1984. He went to Boston to study at Harvard School of Public Health and finish his Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) program in 1990. Then, he went to National Cancer Institute in Frederick, Maryland to receive his post-doctoral training in the Dr. Takes Papas’ Lab of Molecular Oncology. In 1992, Dr. Chen came back to Taiwan and got a joined appointment from Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica and Department of Public Health of NYMU. Since then, he has served different administrative positions for NYMU including Chairman of Department of Public Health (1994-7; 2000-5), Dean of International Affairs (2007-10), Director of International Health Program (2008-10), Dean of R & D and Director of General Research Center (2010-11). Dr. Chen focuses his research on HIV/AIDS and cancer. He has published more than 130 SCI papers in high ranked journals including Lancet, Hepatology, PNAS, Cancer Research, Journal of Virology, Journal of AIDS and Int.J Cancer, Clinical Infectious Dieseaes and J Infect Dis and received many awards. Besides, he had 7 patents from his study on liver cancer biomarkers and animal models. Dr. Chen also served in many important advisory committees in the National Science Council, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Ministry of Education.
