Biography

Yichieh Shiuey, MD is the Founder, President and CEO of KeraMed Inc. an ophthalmology medical device company which develops new devices and implants for corneal surgery. Dr. Shiuey graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in biochemistry from Columbia University, where he performed basic science research in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Martin Chalfie. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, where as a medical student his research in the laboratory of Professor Jorge Alvarado helped lead to the development of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, a common treatment for glaucoma today. He then completed his residency training in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, where he also served as a faculty member and the Associate Chief of Ophthalmology. Dr. Shiuey received the prestigious Heed Fellowship to pursue advanced training in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Utah, Moran Eye Center. Dr. Shiuey is a practicing cornea and refractive surgeon and served as the Chairman of Ophthalmology at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation from 2001 to 2007.
