Research Intrest

We developed a new simplified approach based on weak guidance approximation for calculating Bragg fiber characteristics, and showed good agreement with much more complicated conventional method. This would provide a fast and efficient basis for making new Bragg fiber designs. For the first time we reported characteristics of guided modes in a Bragg waveguide filled with plasma in the cladding region. The analysis showed that by introducing thin plasma layers it is possible to control individual modes and to achieve single mode operation without high frequency limitation at the cost of marginal increase in loss due to absorption. We investigated a new waveguide structure in which core-cladding interface is modulated with helical conducting winding. It was found that the dispersion characteristics of such waveguides show photonic band gaps (PBGs). We have also started working for development of optical waveguide biosensors for detection and monitoring of microbial activities.
