Professor Virendra Rambiritch is a pharmacologist and ethicist with extensive teaching and research experience at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and abroad. He served in senior leadership roles including Director of the former School of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Chair and Deputy Chair of the Bioethics Research Committee, and Chair of the Biosafety Ethics Committee of UKZN. Professor Rambiritch has spent more than three decades in academia. His significant contribution to academic excellence includes being responsible for creating and sustaining both undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacology courses while lecturing medical undergraduate and postgraduate students on ethics and serving as a peer reviewer for the NRF. A passion for teaching, learning and research are the drivers for his continued service to academia and society in large. Professor Rambiritch has served UKZN and The New England College of Optometry, Boston, with distinction, publishing in prestigious national and international journals such as the Lancet and Neurosurgery. His publication in diverse disciplines including anatomy, pharmacology, dermatology, infectious disease and endocrinology are a testament to his passion for science and his willingness to continue learning. He is currently supervising two PhD students in School of Public Health and has authored a chapter in an edited book.
