Since coming to the Hull York Medical School she has, along with Miriam Johnson, Professor of Palliative Medicine, built the successful and vibrant SEDA research group (Supportive care, Early Diagnosis and Advanced disease). She assumed a number of leadership roles, and has led and developed the Phase I Scholarship and Special Interest Programme for her research group. She was Academic Training Programme Director for East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire, leading the NIHR Integrated Academic Training programme locally, and was a member of the national NIHR Integrated Academic Training Panel. She led the Athena SWAN agenda, which encourages and recognises commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, and has led the medical school to successful Bronze and Silver awards in 2013 and 2016 respectively. From 2015-2016 she was Deputy Dean of the medical school. She continues to work clinically as a GP at Bransholme Health Centre in Hull.
