Biography

Tomislav Mihaljevic, MD, is Chief Executive Officer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Previously, Dr. Mihaljevic served as Staff Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus in the US. He also served as a Professor of Surgery at Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to his time in Cleveland, Dr. Mihaljevic served as Director of the Cardiac Surgery Research Laboratory and an Associate Surgeon in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. A native of Croatia, he received his medical degree from the University of Zagreb. Dr. Mihaljevic started his education in cardiac surgery at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 1995, he joined the Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School, where he completed residency in general and cardiac surgery and served as Chief Resident in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Children's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Mihaljevic is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotically assisted cardiac surgeries, valve repair and replacement, image-guided surgery, heart failure and cardiac transplantation. Dr. Mihaljevic serves on editorial boards for a number of medical journals and has authored numerous articles in scientific journals and textbooks. An avid reader, Dr. Mihaljevic enjoys contemporary American and European literature. He resides in Abu Dhabi with his wife and two daughters.​​​​​​​​​​
