Biography

MBChB, MMed, LLM (Medical Law), PhD, FCS (SA), FASCRS, Diploma in Research Ethics. Thandinkosi Enos Madiba is Professor of Surgery at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and is Head of the Colorectal Unit at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, Durban. He is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Madiba has a distinguished career in research and has an active interest in Research Ethics. He is an international authority on diseases of the colon and has established the first Colorectal Unit in KZN. He is founder of the Colorectal Cancer and Stoma Support Group as well as the UKZN Surgical Society. Madiba has played an active role in the official structures of the University and the medical School by contributing to policy and strategy formulation. He has championed transformation at the Medical School and has initiated numerous sessions that have promoted and encouraged the notion of black women surgeons. Madiba was one of the Top 30 Performing Researchers at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for the period 2008-2010. He was awarded the Living Legends award for outstanding achievement by the eThekwini Municipality in September 2011
