Taran Grant holds a bachelor's degree in biology from the Universidad del Valle, Colombia and a doctorate (with distinction) in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Columbia University, USA. He also holds a specialization in Environmental Policy from Columbia University, USA (2004). He received his postdoctoral degree in Computational Biology from the American Museum of Natural History, USA (AMNH). He was Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Biociences of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. He is currently a Ph.D. Professor at the Department of Zoology of the Institute of Biosciences of the University of São Paulo, Associate Curator (Amphibians) of the Museum of Zoology of USP, Research Associate of AMNH, member of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Society of Herpetology, World Congress of Herpetology, Senior Editor / Editor-in-Chief of the South American Journal of Herpetology. Has experience in the areas of Zoology and Ecology. Three main themes are currently addressed: (1) phylogenetic systematics of Amphibia, with emphasis on neotropical groups; (2) chemical defense of Amphibia, with emphasis on Dendrobatidae and Bufonidae; (3) biology of the bullfrog invasion (Lithobates catesbeianus) in Brazil.
