Biography

 Tala lived for many years in Austria and she studied, worked and researched in different parts of Europe. She graduated from the Vienna University of Technology in 2005 and has received her Ph.D. in Architectural news in the field of modernism and its perceptual modalities in relation to space variations. She was granted two scientific research scholarships in Paris/France (2001 and 2004) and in Vienna in support of her experimental design work and for the research of her graduate thesis. In her research she explored her field of specialization in architectural theory and design methods. Subjects of investigation were the human perception of space, orientation in space as well as notions of changing meanings of space in the wide timeframe of modernism. In this line of research, Tala also worked with various media, producing experimental short films and videos on movement and issues of spatial experience. Among other activities Tala was involved in stage design for the National Spanish Dance Company (Compania Nacional de Danza) that won several awards for experimental design (2000, Prix Benois de la Danse/2002, Austrian Award for Experimental Architecture). Tala was involved in various research and scholarly activities such as contributing to the organization of conferences, discussion panels and lecturing since 2000. She took part in the Discussion Panel of the Congress for Students on Concept and Design, organized by the Azad University, Tehran, Iran (October 2006). She was a member of the organizing team for the 1st International Congress on Urban Design in Isfahan/Iran (September 2006) and was also involved in architectural research on sustainability, in Tehran/Iran for the Municipality of Tehran (December 2006- March 2007); She researched on buildings of the Parisian Ceramic Period (Published in ’Paris, La Couleur de la Ville’ edited by Annick Desmier in 2002); she participated in several architectural workshops such as ‘Building in the South’ in Tunis with Francoise Jourda (Jerba/Tunisia, February 2001); ‘Urban Movement’ Workshop with the Institute of Will Alsop (Vienna/Austria, November 2000); ‘Reconsidering the Empty Space’ Workshop with Rudi Riciotti (France and Austria, April 2000). In 2008, she was a member of the Advisory Board for the 2A International Architectural Competition for students and young architects ‘Du(b)ailities’. In 2010 she participated as speaker and chair of the architecture and urban planning session in INTEND 2010 (International Technology, Education and Development Conference) in Valencia and is member of the advisory board for the ICERI 2010 conference in Madrid. Since 2009 she has been actively involved in planning and organizing conferences and workshops at AUD with professionals from the field of architecture and other renowned universities to contribute to students’ broad interaction with the international professional world and to the enhancement of a multilayered educational experience
