Research Intrest

Mitochondria, the energy factories of human cells, contain a circular chromosome that is particularly susceptible to damage.  The goal of my research is to investigate how damage to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) effects mitochondrial gene expression and impairs mitochondrial function.  Numerous reactive molecules are produced in the mitochondrial matrix during normal cellular respiration.
