Biography

Dr. Steven L. Proctor is a Senior Research Professor at Albizu University–Miami Campus. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University (LSU). Prior to LSU, he completed his undergraduate work at Appalachian State University and received his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Western Carolina University. He completed his pre-doctoral clinical internship at the Metropolitan Detention Center in the Federal Bureau of Prisons system in Los Angeles, CA, and his postdoctoral fellowship at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS where he received specialized training in the Addictive Disorders Treatment Program.   Dr. Proctor’s line of research broadly focuses on the evaluation of addictions assessment procedures, diagnostic criteria, instruments, and treatment outcomes. He is primarily interested in evaluating and improving both the efficacy and effectiveness of substance use treatment services. An additional aim of his research is identifying and understanding the underlying mechanisms of problematic substance use that may influence or mediate treatment outcomes. Dr. Proctor also works as an independent research and program evaluation consultant.
