Biography

PERSONAL DATA: Born in Florence on 12.4. 1950 Degree courses: Doctor of Biological Sciences, University of Florence. PhD.in Biol.Animal ACADEMIC CURRICULUM QUALIFICATION: Ordinary Professor of Zoology at Univ.di Firenze. DIDACTIC ACTIVITIES: Zoology, Sociobiology and Special Entomology Courses. Coordinator of the PhD in Biology SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY: 1) Research on the evolution of social behavior and social parasitism in insects, 2) research on chemical communication in social insects. 3) research on the composition and function of the venom of social hymns; 4) Research on morphology and function of the insect exocrine glands; 5) research on nest architecture in social wasps; 6) Sociobiological and systematic studies on tropical social wasps. Author of over 200 publications in international scientific journals on topics related to social insects and chemical communication in insects. President of the Mass Spectrometry Center at the University of Florence from 1999 to 2008.
