Silvia Orengo-Nania, M.D. is a full tenured professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye institute at Baylor College of Medicine Alkek Eye Center. She is also the Eye Care Line Executive at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affair Medical Center. She graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Rice University with a degree in Biochemistry. She attended Baylor College of Medicine for medical school and continued there for her residency in Ophthalmology. She completed her glaucoma fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. She has been on staff at the Alkek Eye Center for 25 years. Her interests include medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma and cataracts in adults. She has won several awards including the Dan B. Jones Teaching Award, the Senior Achievement award for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Director’s Award for Professional Leadership at the Michael E. DeBakey VAMC. She has been on the Best Doctors in America list for many years. Dr. Orengo-Nania has participated and continues to participate in clinical trials and research to improve glaucoma care.
