Former Team USA wrestler and collegiate national champion Shauna (Isbell) Kemp has been named the head coach of the University of Jamestown women's wrestling program. Kemp was a member of the Team USA women's wrestling team from 2012-13 and was the 2012 Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national champion. The Flagstaff, Ariz., native was also the 2009 USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle national champion. "Shauna's passion for the sport and her hunger to be a leader in the women's wrestling community will be a great asset to our student-athletes as she leads the Jimmie women's wrestling program," said University of Jamestown Director of Athletics Sean Johnson. "I have always had a natural tendency toward coaching," said Kemp. "Working for the University of Jamestown with such a dedicated staff in academics and athletics is very exciting. My husband and I are excited about raising our daughter in such a great community." Kemp has competed all over the world, finishing second at the Junior Pan American Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil, second in the Hari Ram Grand Prix in New Deli, India and 8th in the Pan American Games in Panama City, Panama. She also traveled to Canada, Spain and Ukraine competing for both Team USA and as a member of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club. Kemp looks to translate her experiences into continued growth of the Jimmie women's wrestling program. "I want to build a program of respectable community members, women of good character and student-athletes that can balance academics and athletics. I will be working toward a team championship and getting these women on national and world teams representing the USA as well as the Jimmies." A graduate of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., Kemp was a four-year national place winner at WCWA nationals, finishing second in 2010 and 2013 and third in 2011. As a high school competitor at Coconino High School in Flagstaff, Kemp was a four-time girls state champion and became the first and only girl to place at 112 pounds at the boys high school state championship with a fourth place finish.
