Biography

Sean Johnson joined the University of Jamestown as director of athletics June 23, 2015. Johnson joined UJ after 3 years as Director of Athletics at Angelo State University, an NCAA Division 2 institution in San Angelo, Texas. In his final year at ASU (2014-15) the program finished a best ever 25th in the NCAA Division 2 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings. The football, volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, softball and baseball teams all advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The football team won its first playoff game since 1997 while advancing to the round of 16. The women’s soccer team won its first NCAA Tournament game while the men’s basketball team posted a school record 28-6 mark and lost in the last seconds of the NCAA Sweet 16. The baseball team advanced to the NCAA Division 2 World Series. The men’s track and field team finished 14th at the NCAA Division 2 Outdoor Track and Field Championships while the women’s team finished 11th at the indoor championships and 17th at the outdoor championships. In that same season, 113 student-athletes were named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner Honor Roll with student-athletes earning the LSC Fred Jacoby Academic male athlete of the year, its first ever LSC Male Athlete of the Year as well as numerous athletic and academic All-America honors. Johnson previously served as Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of North Dakota, Associate Athletics Director at New Mexico State as well as an extensive 25-year career in collegiate media relations. He is a 1983 graduate of the University of Missouri. Johnson is on the board of the Salvation Army and a member of the Jamestown Rotary Club. Sean and his wife Marcia have a son, Ian.
