Dr. Ames' areas of expertise include kidney and pancreas transplantation, dialysis access surgery (especially reoperative surgery for those with previous access failures), and parathyroid surgery. His areas of clinical interest include outcome analysis of living donor nephrectomy surgery, factors affecting delayed graft function in kidney, and the economics of transplantation. Dr. Ames earned his M.D. from The University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed an internship in Surgery and residencies in Surgery and Research at the University of Utah. He did a fellowship in Transplantation at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and a fellowship in Liver Transplantation at Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Ames has been a member of Alpha Omega Alpha since 1982 and was awarded the Outstanding Physician Award by the Nevada Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation in 1991. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Surgery.
